8 months and counting

seven weeks left, supposedly.

What I did today.

Starting at 7:45 a.m. today I ran five miles. That's five times around the loop of the inlet I live on. Each time I had to EXRUCIATINGLY pass this VERY liberal church (signs with lots of rainbows and something about meeting for equal marriage rights for all) that was holding a garage sale from 8 a.m. to noon. I kept seeing people pulling up and leaving with mystery items in boxes and bags. All of which I imagined, as I huffed and puffed my way by, that they were full of wonderful treasures I was missing out on for only a mere dollar.

I finally finished at 9 a.m., went up to the apt, drank a glass of water, grabbed my muh-lah and my hubby and trucked back over to aforementioned church to see if anything was left.

I found a set of twin bed sheets, brand new, still in the wrapping, for $2. J wondered why I was buying twin sheets when in fact we don't have a twin bed. Alas, we DO own two frames to two twin antique pine beds from his great-grandparents, we just don't have them in our "teeny" apartment-they're in storage for when we buy a house, oh, about two years from now. So really, I can rationalized two dollar sheets and storing them for two years.

I also found a $56 (!!!) exquisite gift for only $7.50. What I found shall remain nameless incase I decide to gift it to any of y'all. It was truly a find.

And various other sundry, brand new gifts still in prestine dept. store packages that the snooty millionaires in this neighborhood obviously got for christmas and didn't like, hence they were donated to the church rummage sale.

The best deal of all?

20 stainless steel marshmellow/hotdog camping sticks-all for one dollar.

Who on earth would part with that treasure for just one dollar? ;)

J dutifully carried around all my purchases and pointed out a wonderful, new computer chair that my duff is now comfortably sitting on.

Calling all garage salers!

Anyone near my dear mommy who can get this to her by the first of June:
PLEASE buy any and all STURDY/HARD children's books you find at garage sales and tell me how much I owe you. I'm trying to fill up a duffel bag with books for Africa and wanted to send over really sturdy kid's books that thirty dirt poor orphans can handle a bazillion times in the dirt and still live up to good wear. even little kids (two year old) books would be great! THANKS!

Sort of Like a Prom

Tim and Yeon Jun took their sweeties (actually, "just" friends) to the annual Houghton Academy Junior/Senior banquet last night. This event is turning into a monster (if you ask me, and I'll presume you did). They rent buses, buy fancy apparel, eat a big dinner (if they liked the menu, and both boys said it wasn't the greatest, which begs the question "what would you prefer?"), and then go to a show - Riverdance. Then they come home at midnight (Yeon Jun) or keep partying at a classmate's house (Tim)(roasting marshmallows and cinnamon rolls that pop out of a tube - we are totally talking fun now). Tim enjoyed the classmate's dogs (lab pup and german shepherd - though he said Hendee had a lot more personality*) more than he enjoyed the classmate. I've been editing the pictures Tim brought home and I'm pretty sure he has pictures with every girl that attended. That's my boy.
Tim's classy vintage suit (40 years old) suit is from Goodwill - $20. Plus cleaning and driving to the cleaners - ouch.

*"personality". That's what we call it.
