Life from inside a Sardine Can...

OK, here are some pics. We just got our power turned on after 5 days; we got ours on earlier than everyone else because we are on across from a hospital. They are estimating power to be all on for everyone after a total of one month after the hurricane.
These picture are of our Israeli friends who we are introducing to the American custom of Halloween. The mother is kind of mystified as to why I have such a stockpile of costumes. We had them over for a meal to cook up and give away our chicken etc., now we ourselves are eating pork, bacon and ham for the next month. The other picture is of us on the street in front of one way out of the development we live in.The other way has downed power wires in front of it, but people are driving over them. The lines for gas and ice have been miles long and the people can be short-tempered, so we have avoided them. We walked across the street early when a store was open (though with no lights) on two days and managed to get ice, which melted in one day. For three days we were without ice. All in all, this was like camping in a beautiful vacation spot, and we did not suffer in the least other than a little self-induced stress.

BEFORE THE HURRICANE: (Life inside a sardine can) That's what this feels like, with the metal hurricane shutters closed. We'll let you all know how this turns out; it's like having snow days but minus the snow. Right now we are exploring the boxes and boxes of Halloween costumes that SOMEBODY just had to drag from up North down to here when we moved. I just could not stand the thought of discarding my duck feet, feather headresses and fake blood.
